BELIZE PHOTO - Private [TENNE]

I have very mixed feeling about the Peruvian Riverboat tour. On the positive side, the crew was extremely accommodating and genuinely very friendly. The meals were very nicely presented and tasty.  As you are aware many of us came down with dysentery which I attribute  to meal preparation with contaminated water.  A question to the captain that the water came from the river and into a 4,000 gallon settling tank. No modern filtration method was mentioned. I suspect we go reinfected at each meal. It took me  about 6 days after I returned home until my system was back to normal. Due to illness, I was force to miss some activities. 
The wildlife photography was disappointing because the subjects were far away against strong backlight. Some of tours of the smaller tributaries were much more interesting and photography was much better. I enjoyed the interaction with the people in the villages. The viewing and photography of the large snakes, frogs, and spiders was a highpoint. I didn’t like the night viewing using high intensity lights to show the wildlife. Reminded me of deer hunters in the states. Our naturalist and boat driver were excellent. Enjoyed seeing the people getting around with the handmade boats with the motors with the extended shafts.

AMAZON 2026: Peruvian Riverboat Photography & Birding Adventure

This was a wonderful trip.  The service, food and accommodations were outstanding.  The local naturalist guides and boat drivers were outstanding, and we saw an extraordinary amount of wildlife: over 200 species of birds, ten species of monkeys plus reptiles, amphibians and sloths!  I would definitely recommend the trip. 

The birding tour to Belize with Glen was amazing! The locations we visited, the lodges we stayed in, the food, the company, and the birds, mammals, reptiles and butterflies we saw were fabulous!

MINNESOTA: Photographing Owls

We are nature photographers, not birders .
We had interest in photographing the Great gray owl and the Snowy owl.
Per the visitor center , the Great gray wasn’t seen in the area since October 2025.
This was not disclosed to us.
Had we known that , we would cancel our trip.
The guid was professional and the group was great.
Because this fact was known , you can’t claim “ we can’t guarantee wild life”

The trip to Belize with Glenn was over the top wonderful!  He is such a caring and knowledgeable guide and he doesn't skip a beat.  He made sure we all had a good view of the birds and also that we were able to take the pictures we wanted.  I would definitely recommend this trip to any serious birder.

It was a good birding experience. The guide did a great job of finding endemic birds.
I didn’t appreciate the driver texting and driving, sometimes even watching YouTube videos while behind the wheel. At one point, he even dozed off a bit while at the traffic stop light. 
The communications before the trip and information on the trip could have been a little better. 



PUERTO RICO: Birding the Island of Enchantment

Gabriel knows where the birds are and how to get them within range to see. We saw all the endemics and many more specialties. I saw 89 birds and 40 were lifers! I have some wonderful photos as well. 
 I would use this company again - and likely will. 
Hotels were all fine.

Both our guides were very knowledgeable. I was amazed how Rudy could tell which birds were present by their calls and could spot them easily among the trees. He also readily answered our questions about Belize history, languages used, etc.  Dawn was very helpful pointing out for us to think about the background when photographing the birds.  Since she also had a Nikon camera, she helped me quite a bit with my camera settings.  We saw some amazing birds and even Rudy got excited about some rare sightings of an Agami Heron and a cetain Grebe that is usually hard to see.  Dawn was also very helpful when I had some uninvited guests (rats) in my room at the La Milpa Lodge!  She found the maintenance guy at night and we trapped the rats.  Actually they were kind of  cute once in a cage!  (Unfortunately there was a third one, but they only had 2 traps).  They were quite the celebrities in the morning as Rudy and the maintenance guy had never seen one of those before (they were identified as Vesper rats).   

There were only 4 of us with the two guides, so it was like having a private tour.  The weather was great.  The company was great. The other lady (Bernice) was a bat expert,  so that was interesting to hear about and she pointed out several locations were bats were.   All in all, it was a great trip!

BELIZE: Birds and Monkeys Photo Safari 2026

I'm not a birder but it seems that Alex has an excellent knack at spotting birds and other wildlife.  Alex is great at sharing his knowledge and he has a lot of it.  He was great at communicating with other birding companies in the area to see what they were seeing setting up scopes, etc.  Chris was very nonverbal so it's hard for me to evaluate him but he is a good person and was helpful if asked a question.  They could have been better at communicating what we could expect for the next days activities, basic plans for meals, location of spotting, species anticipated, etc.   Just a general outline which could change according to weather, bird spotting, etc.  Should have been mindful of people with mobility issues.  We only had one man who had issues.  He should have sat in front seat always cause it was easier for him to get in and out of vehicles.  Also, I didn't feel confident that they did a head count every time we exited and reentered vehicles.  I've been on many tours (non birding) and regardless of the goal of a tour or how much it costs, communication is extremely important to make it an excellent experience.  Accommodations and location good.

MINNESOTA: Winter Boreal Specialties FEB 15-19

Our guides were outstanding.  Rudy answered all out questions with patience and clarity.  He was great for spotting birds and helping us to spot them.  He always had a plan for what was next.  His driving was careful and safe.  He clearly loves his country.  Dawn was helpful in spotting birds.  As a Nikon shooter she was very helpful to Jackie who also shoots Nikon.  But I shoot Sony and am pretty experienced so I didn't get much from her but that's understandable and not a knock on her.  I look forward to more adventures on the Wildside.

Great guides, Alex and Chris. Great area. Great people. 

I had a wonderful time. Great guides, comfortable accommodations, great meals. Met some great birding enthusiasts, and hopefully will bird with some of them again.

MINNESOTA: Winter Boreal Specialties FEB 10-14

The Boreal Specialties trip was great. Our guides were knowledgeable and remarkably good at spotting birds and making sure everyone in the group got a look. Would do again.

While we missed seeing the primary Target Bird (Great Gray Owl), it wasn't for lack of trying. (Last seen in the area, December 2025.) Our guides, Alex & Chris, made every effort to be sure everyone got great views and opportunities for photos for a wide range of species. They stayed current on local sightings, and we were successful in tracking down most of them. We managed to see and photograph species we were NOT expecting. They kept us informed on each day's schedule and adjusted quickly when new information surfaced. They are knowledgeable, informative, and personable.
The vehicles were warm and comfortable with easy access for quick stops. 
The hotel was clean, quiet, and comfortable. The hotel staff made breakfast available earlier than normal to accommodate our "early birder" schedule on most days. The dining choices for lunch and dinner were varied and universally tasty and affordable. 
I would recommend this tour and any other tour hosted by Alex and/or Chris. I am already making plans for additional Wildside Tours in the near future.

We had a great time.  Great accommodations, good food, great birds! Gabriel was a fantastic guide! 
Only issue we had was the Hyatt hotel charging us for a night's stay plus the incidentals. Gabriel was on it. We still await the credit. 😉

We look forward to traveling with you again!!

Truly an amazing adventure! The food, accommodations, and our guide, Gabriel, were wonderful. I’d recommend this trip to my birding friends! Can’t wait until we finalize our Dominican Republic trip!

We had another great trip with Alex Lamoreaux in the US (our 4th).  We also very much enjoyed Mark Mizak as the co-leader.
After all the rain they had in southern California the previous weeks, we were lucky to stay dry throughout the trip.  It was a great group of birders, we saw lots of birds and had a great time, touring a part of the US where we didn't bird previously.

CALIFORNIA: Ultimate SoCal Birding Adventure

It was an excellent trip for my wife and I. Alex does such a great job guiding and Mark did a wonderful job backing him up. We saw over 240 species of birds and many were lifers for us. Alex gives little tips on IDing birds that are very similar in appearance.We had an enjoyable experience with other like-minded birders and can't wait for our next trip with Wildside Nature Tours.  

We signed up for the Belize trip, in part, because of the amazing experience we had with Glenn in Costa Rica the previous March. This exceptional human being did not disappoint. We hope to take many more Glenn Crawford led tours with Wildside in the future. In addition to his exceptional skills as a birder and guide, he is kindness personified.
The fact that there were only 4 birders on this trip, all of whom got along famously, only added to the trip’s success. Being surrounded by the beauty of. Belize and Guatemala while seeing so many wonderful birds was icing on the cake. Michelle and Dave Dooley

BELIZE & TIKAL 13-Day: Tropical Birding Bonanza

Super trip!  All the birding spots were very well planned and delivered an amaing 248 species.  But more than the number count was the great work of Alex to plan the route and the terrific job of guiding us from both Alex and Mark.  These two are incredible birders who obviously love sharing their knowledge and passion with others. Their calm, peaceful demeanors and quiet smiles every day, despite the constant work of guiding, driving, listing, caring for participants was stellar.

The trip was incredible.  Glenn, our guide, was the reason.  He is very experienced with the diversity of bird species in the areas we visited.  Belize is his backyard, literally.  He always made the extra effort to get us on to the birds.  He is pleasant, kind, and knows a lot about other flora and fauna besides birds.  I wouldn’t hesitate to do another trip with Glenn.

This was one of the best birding trips I have done. Gabriel was a fantastic guide and host for our trip. Great accommodations, food was fantastic and getting to see all the endemics was a true winner. Gabriel was knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and clearly passionate about birds and conservation. He was great at spotting and identifying species by sight and sound, and took the time to explain interesting behaviors and habitat details along the way. The pace of the trip was relaxed but well-organized, and everyone had plenty of opportunities to see and enjoy the birds. I came away having seen many new species and with a deeper appreciation for the area’s birdlife. Highly recommended—I would gladly join another trip with this guide.

Gabriel knows the island like the back of his hand. We got all the endemics and a lot more! Food was great, you will NOT go hungry! Pace was easy. Hotels were nice. I don’t have a single bad thing to say about this trip! 

Our guide Gabriel was excellent!  He knew exactly where and when to find the beautiful endemic birds of Puerto Rico plus many other regional species.  We were also treated to many of Gabriel’s favorite food stops so we could try much of the local cuisine.  This is a great tour if you want to truly experience this gorgeous island.

This was a well-thought-out itinerary – lodging in three locations, all of them in attractive settings with plenty of birds around. A nice combination of driving through open countryside, walking in forests, motoring up and down lagoons, and visiting Mayan ruins.  And nobody knows the birds of Belize better than Glenn Crawford.

BELIZE 2025: 9-Day Birding with Glenn Crawford

Our guide, Gabriel Lugo, was fantastic finding every endemic bird for us and many others. Accommodations and food were excellent. 

I have attended more than 20 photography workshops. This workshop was a quality level above the rest because the group was small, the workshop was OM System only, and the length of the workshop ensured that we could repeatedly apply the information taught by the workshop leader, Lee Hoy, so that actions appropriate to the situation became automatic. Lee explained and helped us program custom camera settings appropriate for wildlife, landscape, night sky, and macro photography. During the workshop, Lee taught us fieldcraft while offering assistance when we needed it. I recommend this workshop to anyone who owns an Olympus/OM camera system and wants a great introduction to wildlife photography or wants to significantly improve their wildlife photography skills.

The mighty Andes Mountains form a tall, jagged spine down the edge of South America, with the mountains plunging west into the Pacific Ocean while vast steppe-grassland form a broad, tapered slope eastward to the Atlantic Ocean. As the Andes march south they steadily sink into the Southern Ocean, creating an archipelago of islands wrapping into the sea. Together, these dynamic landscapes create the famous Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego regions of southern South America which encompasses 1 million square kilometers and a population density of less than 2 inhabitants per square kilometer, leaving plenty of room for wild landscapes and spectacular wildlife! The scenery throughout this trip is a highlight alone! This 11-day tour tour was specially designed to observe some of the region’s finest endemic birds such as Lesser Rhea, Kelp Goose, Magellanic Oystercatcher, Flightless Steamer-Duck, Least Seedsnipe, Short-billed Miner, Austral Canastero, and the scarce Magellanic Plover! Glacier-carved valleys above the tree line are home to the spectacular Yellow-bridled Finch and the massive Andean Condor. In addition to the dozens of regional specialties, this area is also a major wintering area for birds we may be familiar with from the Northern Hemisphere. South America’s southern tip is broken up into thousands of islands, creating an archipelagos known as Tierra del Fuego which provides the wintering grounds for many palearctic migratory birds. The vast coastal estuaries and the Strait of Magellan on the border of Argentina and Chile are particularly important for wintering shorebirds. These remarkable marathon fliers have traveled nearly 10,000 miles from their high-arctic breeding grounds in the Northern Hemisphere to winter here (near the Antarctic!) in the Southern Hemisphere! The shorebirds can take full advantage of the huge buffets exposed by the changing tides in this wild area at the bottom of the World! <h3>Activity Level Rating:&nbsp;3&nbsp;(Note: 1 is easy and 5 is difficult)</h3>Most walks will be on easy terrain, but with some rocky trails and some altitude change throughout the tour. However, the hike to Martial Glacier is a bit more strenuous… but worth every step! The wind can be quite strong at times and participants should plan on cool to cold days. There is a 1/2-day boat trip out of Ushuaia on a smaller boat with just our group. Conditions on the water can be cool, windy, and choppy.
